Of Books and Music

Hello everyone, and happy Saturday morning!

I’m now relaxed and refreshed, so I’m back with my rambles. Uh oh!

As usual, skim through and just look at the pretty pictures if you want me to shut up. 😛

So here’s a confession.

I actually halfway-finished this yesterday. But in a different build.

And while I was doing the finishing touches, I was watching this French movie called My Afternoons with Margueritte.

Gerard Depardieu starred in this movie as a man who believes he is a stupid and a useless oaf, mainly because he is illiterate. One afternoon, he met a bookwormish old lady at this park, who began to read to him. As he became more interested in the many stories that comes out of books, he took the initiative to learn to read.

I’m not going to spoil the movie for you, but I have to admit I did shed a few tears along the way. It’s a heartwarming story. 🙂 Here’s a trailer.

There are two things I love to do to relax on weekend mornings: read and classical music. And after watching this movie about the magic of reading, and that beautiful soundtrack, I gutted my original styling and decided to do a ‘me’ room. 🙂

So pull out one of my favourite builds: The Persimmon House from LISP

…and then fill it with everything I love.

Books. Music. Crafts. Sunlight.

Quiet mornings. 🙂

I didn’t use different WL settings for this series of pictures. But the original WL was this dark.

So let’s turn on the light, shall we?

Guess who said that?

Back in 2008, there was this study that claimed your musical tastes is closely linked to your personality. I use the word ‘claimed’ because I’m not a big fan of pigeonholing people based on just one variable. Here’s the conclusion from that study: *cue eye rolls*

  • Blues fans have high self-esteem, are creative, outgoing, gentle and at ease
  • Jazz fans have high self-esteem, are creative, outgoing and at ease
  • Classical music fans have high self-esteem, are creative, introvert and at ease
  • Rap fans have high self-esteem and are outgoing
  • Opera fans have high self-esteem, are creative and gentle
  • Country and western fans are hardworking and outgoing
  • Reggae fans have high self-esteem, are creative, not hardworking, outgoing, gentle and at ease
  • Dance fans are creative and outgoing but not gentle
  • Indie fans have low self-esteem, are creative, not hard working, and not gentle
  • Bollywood fans are creative and outgoing
  • Rock/heavy metal fans have low self-esteem, are creative, not hard-working, not outgoing, gentle, and at ease
  • Chart pop fans have high self-esteem, are hardworking, outgoing and gentle, but are not creative and not at ease
  • Soul fans have high self-esteem, are creative, outgoing, gentle, and at ease

What baloneys! love classical, rock/heavy metal, country and trance (not listed here, so I’ll take that under ‘dance’). I don’t prefer one over the other. The different music serves different purposes. I wake up to heavy metal, relax to classical, cook with country and gym with trance. I used to study to classical music, but when it came to Finance subjects, only metal seems to help me focus and trudge along with all those maths I had to do.

So, by the wisdom of this study, it appears that I am a person of high self-esteem AND low-self esteem, is both hardworking and lazy and is also outgoingly shy. LOLWUT?

My Man prefers one type of music over everything else: heavy metal. And yet he is the most confident and hardworking person I ever know.

I will repeat this again: I believe it is absolutely silly to pigeonhole people based on only one variable. Similarly, it is also silly to believe in pigeonholing yourself based on just one variable.

Human personalities are complicated. We’re colourful. The beauty of being a higher being on this planet is that we can adapt, we are flexible. If we start labeling people the moment we know only one thing about them, we might miss the chance to know someone who’d turn out to be completely amazing.

But anyway…this sums up my idea about a good life almost perfectly:

“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I say “almost” because in order for it to be completely perfect, there should be mentions of chocolates somewhere in that quote. 🙂

Happy Saturday, everyone, and don’t forget to check out The Neighbourhood before today ends. The list is available when you join the inworld group (free). …and after that, pay a visit to The Kollective to see more Home & Garden goodies! 🙂

happyweekend
